Esther selected for Children's Orchestra of Great Britain

A youngster from Tregarth near Bethesda has become the youngest ever pupil from Gwynedd to be accepted into the Children’s Training Orchestra of Great Britain.

Esther Llugwy Parry, who is aged just 8 is a pupil at Ysgol Tregarth, plays the cello. She is a member of the Gwynedd and Anglesey Youth Orchestra and has been a pupil of the Williams Mathias Schools Music Service for several years.

She attended an audition in London in May and was selected to join 50 other young musicians between the ages of 7 and 10 other to attend a special residential course during the summer holidays.

Ann Jones, Manager of the Schools Music Service, said: “We are very proud of Esther – this is a wonderful achievement for her and the Schools’ Music Service. Our pupils and their tutors work very hard, so it’s fantastic when an opportunity such as this comes along.” The Williams Mathias Schools Music Service provides lessons to around 5,000 pupils across Gwynedd and Anglesey and runs 13 different ensembles across the region. The service was set up in 1996 and is funded by Gwynedd Council and the Isle of Anglesey County Council to provide instrumental and vocal lessons at primary and secondary schools across both counties.
